Korean Popular actress Song Yun Ah will reduce Salary for sake of TV show

Popular actress Song Yun Ah, currently participating in SBS's drama On Air, offers to cut down her own salary.

According to Japan's newspaper Donga, Song Yun Ah volunteers to cut down her wage in On Air to help lower the production budget of the drama.

On Air is one of SBS's big projects with lots of famous stars along with great settings. The salaries for actors alone are already expensive.

Song Yun Ah only accepts an estimate of 70% the salary that she received from her last drama, which was Noona from 2007 produced by MBC. This is equal to the salary of a B level actress, even though she has been a top star for quite some time.

Her management company said " Starring in such a high cost drama like On Air, Song Yun Ah offers to reduce her salary in every episodes, and hopes to lower the burden for the production department; in return, she wishes that it can help to improve the quality of the drama"

In drama On Air, Song Yun Ah plays as a cocky scriptwriter. This role is very different from other roles that she portrayed before. A lot of fans support and praise her for playing this new character. Also, although only two episodes were aired so far, On Air will tend to increase its ratings in the future.

That's great to hear that top actress such as Song Yun Ha is willing to lower her salary. Other top actors and actresses should follow in her footsteps because the korean wave is going to slow down if something doesn't give. Since the Korean wave peaked, top actors salaries have hit the roof resulting in poorer quality. This has seen a decline in sales worldwide because most of the budget went on star's salaries instead of the script etc. Well done, i hope this is a trend that doesn't run out of steam!
